stimulus of light makes sense when we realize that the rising and setting of the

which in turn produces the symptoms of SAD.

in our daily sleep/wake cycle. When this cycle is disrupted, we get the symptoms

Seal-Tite Manufacturing, Hillsboro, Ohio
The Seal-Tite Manufacturing Company in Hillsboro, Ohio is a manufacturer of duct products and fittings for the HVAC market. The plant employs 125 skilled laborers. The plant uses 400 watt HID fixtures, which created poor quality lighting and high electric bills.
OBJECTIVE:
The goals set forth were fourfold; First, to significantly reduce energy costs; Secondly, to improve the quality and Intensity of the light; Thirdly, to reduce maintenance cost and finally to reduce heat load.
PROCEDURE:
Gary Miller, production supervisor sought TechBrite's expertise in developing ideas in compliance with the above mentioned objectives. With Gary's assistance in providing key data on the existing system, recommendations were determined in conjunction with Bob Thomas, TechBrite's Engineering Manager. and Don Wiley, Lighting Design Manager.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
The entire population of existing 460-Watt HID fixtures would be replaced by TechBrite'sStarbrite 220 Watt fixture, while integrating motion control to optimize savings.
MATERIAL:
TechBrite uses the highest quality components in its fixtures.
FIXTURES:
The StarBrite fixtures used UL 1570 parts. Reflectors are an 95% reflective polished aluminum with a 25 year warranty.
LAMPS:
Osram "Quicktronic" QT3X40/277 electronic ballast were selected. The Osram ballast features an internal chip to sense end of life failure which prevent damage to sockets and other components.
RESULTS:
Economic payback was within one year, saving 52% on electric energy alone. Light levels and the quality of lighting improved dramatically. Lower maintenance was achieved, overall heat reduction along with motion controls further reduced their operating costs.
